How long would it take to complete the season?

There are 92 games left to play and the season could be completed in about five weeks.

Manchester City, Sheffield United, Arsenal and Aston Villa have 10 games to play. The other 16 clubs have nine games to play.

Liverpool need six more points to win the title. They could do that by winning their first two games when the season resumes – away at Everton and at home against Crystal Palace.

Why has June 8 emerged as a date when the Premier League could restart?

One Premier League club owner says June 8 is the “best-case scenario” of when the Premier League season could restart, but he thinks that is an ambitious target.

The government said on Thursday the lockdown would be in place for at least another three weeks. If it is lifted on May 7 players may be able to start training again depending on government advice. Players would need to train for about three weeks to get close to match fitness again, so games could start in early June.

It has to be stressed though that this is the best-case scenario. The Premier League have modelled for the season starting later than June.

PL continues to plan for return this summer but how might it actually work?

The Premier League remains suspended but plans are being put in place for a return – should government advice allow – in the early part of the summer.

Most recently, June 8 has emerged as a possible earliest return date for champions-elect Liverpool and the other 19 Premier League teams, most of whom have something to win or lose [apart from vital prize money] over the remaining nine or 10 games.

But how might any return to games work? Will there be a pre-season? What about coronavirus testing? And what can supporters expect to see?

Bayern Munich announce that they sign a new contract with defender Alphonso Davies until 2025.

Official announcement:

FC Bayern and Alphonso Davies have agreed terms extending the player’s stay at the club ahead of schedule. Both sides agreed to extend the player’s contract, which originally ran until 2023, for a further two years until 30 June 2025. 19-year-old Davies joined the German record champions from the Vancouver Whitecaps in autumn 2018.

Alphonso Davies was signed by FC Bayern in the summer of 2018. After the Vancouver Whitecaps’ season ended early, he began training with the first team in Munich in November. While he had caused a furore in the MLS as a fast and versatile winger, he went on to establish himself at left back for FC Bayern.

He has made 31 competitive appearances this season, running up a tally of one goal and eight assists. Last season, he celebrated winning the domestic double of the Bundesliga and DFB Cup with FC Bayern and was also part of the Bayern reserves squad that was promoted to the third division. He made his debut for Canada at the age of 16 and has scored five goals in 17 appearances.

Davies said: “I am very happy. FC Bayern is one of the best clubs in the world, and for me it’s a dream come true to play here. I felt happy from day one. I want to win as many titles as possible with this club. The mentality of always wanting to win everything is in FC Bayern’s DNA.“
